  • lbs lean ground beef
  • 5 –6 medium potatoes peeled and thinly sliced (about ⅛ inch)
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • Flavor Base
  • 1 can 10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Pantry Staples
  • Olive oil or butter for greasing dish
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions
 

  • Preheat & Prep
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Peel and thinly slice potatoes.
  • Cook the Beef
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and diced onion until browned.
  • Drain excess grease.
  • Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • Make the Sauce
  • In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
  • Layer the Casserole
  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish.
  • Top with half of the beef mixture.
  • Spoon half of the soup mixture evenly over the top.
  • Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, beef, and sauce.
  • Bake
  • Cover tightly with foil.
  • Bake for 60 minutes.
  • Remove foil, sprinkle with shredded cheese, and bake uncovered for 15–20 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
  • Rest & Serve
  • Let casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.

  • Thin potato slices are essential for even cooking.
  • Foil traps steam so potatoes cook through—don’t skip it.
  • Casserole thickens as it rests.
