  • 2 large eggs lightly beaten
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning store-bought or homemade
  • 1 cup crushed tortilla chips not too fine
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika optional
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Neutral oil or cooking spray for crisping

Instructions

  • Prep
  • Preheat oven to 425°F (or air fryer to 400°F).
  • Pat chicken strips dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Set up a breading station:
  • Bowl 1: flour mixed with taco seasoning, garlic powder, and smoked paprika
  • Bowl 2: beaten eggs
  • Bowl 3: crushed tortilla chips
  • Coat the Chicken
  • Dip each chicken strip into the flour mixture.
  • Dip into the egg, letting excess drip off.
  • Press firmly into the crushed tortilla chips to coat evenly.
  • Oven Method (Crispy & Easy)
  • Place coated chicken on a wire rack set over a baking sheet.
  • Spray lightly with oil.
  • Bake 18–22 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and cooked through.
  • Air Fryer Method
  • Arrange chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • Spray lightly with oil.
  • Air fry 10–12 minutes, flipping once, until crisp.
  • Pan-Fry Method
  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Cook chicken 3–4 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
  • Drain on paper towels.
  • Let rest 2–3 minutes.
  • Sprinkle lightly with salt and serve hot with dipping sauces.

Notes

  • Don’t crush tortilla chips into a powder—texture creates crunch.
  • Use a wire rack when baking to allow airflow underneath.
  • Season immediately after cooking for best flavor.
