  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Pantry Staples
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  • Season chicken lightly with salt and black pepper.
  • Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add onions and cook slowly, stirring often, for 20–25 minutes until deeply golden and caramelized.
  • Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add chicken and cook 3–4 minutes until lightly browned (not fully cooked).
  • Stir in dry orzo, broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Italian seasoning.
  • Transfer mixture to the prepared casserole dish and spread evenly.
  • Cover tightly with foil and bake 30 minutes.
  • Remove foil, sprinkle with Gruyère and parmesan cheese.
  • Bake uncovered 10–15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  • Let rest 5–10 minutes before serving.

  • Beef broth provides classic French onion depth, but chicken broth works well too.
