  • 1/4 cup brown sugar For sweetness and to activate yeast.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.

Add-ins

  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts or pecans) Adds flavor and texture.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, brown sugar, and instant yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, salt, and mixed seeds.
  • Once the yeast is frothy, add it to the dry ingredients along with the milk and olive oil. Mix until the dough starts to come together.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Gently incorporate the chopped nuts into the dough.

Rising

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, until doubled in size.
  • After the first rise, punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan. Let it rise again for 30-45 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use fresh ingredients and ensure the yeast is activated. You can experiment with different flours, seeds, and nuts.
