  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Can substitute with coconut oil for a dairy-free version.
  • 1 cup apples, peeled and chopped Choose firm varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (optional) Can enhance sweetness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather all of your dry and wet ingredients in separate bowls.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and baking powder. Whisk together until well mixed.

Combine Wet Ingredients

  • In another bowl, stir together the melted butter and maple syrup (if using). Add the chopped apples to this mixture.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ones and mix until just moistened.

Bake the Bars

  • Grease a baking pan with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper.
  • Pour the mixture into the pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.

Cool and Cut

  • Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  • Lift them from the pan using the edges of the parchment paper or slice directly in the pan. Cut into squares or rectangles as desired.

Notes

Use fresh apples for the best flavor. Store in an airtight container for up to a week. Variations include adding nuts or dried fruits, or spices like nutmeg.
