For the peach filling

  • 4 cups fresh or canned peaches, sliced Use ripe peaches for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust if peaches are very sweet.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted Essential for rich flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Peel and slice fresh peaches into thick wedges or drain canned peaches. Combine them with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice in a large bowl. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Gradually add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.

Baking

  • Pour the peach mixture into a greased baking dish. Then pour the batter evenly over the top of the peaches.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
